Freeee....?
wow I'll not grumble but lets hope its got more talking RP gameplay then just shooting, also considering how long the missions where in ME2 it might be pretty short.

A new party member and more, for a price.

March 11, 2010 - We've seen a number of downloadable content releases so far for BioWare's Mass Effect 2, and we're told the next will cost you real dollars. No word yet on exactly how expensive it'll be since BioWare's still figuring it out, but it does come along with a number of new items and story bits. The content should be ready to go on April 6 for Xbox 360 and PC.

One of the main attractions of the download is Kasumi, a stealthy female fighter who you can meet up with in the Citadel. After getting her attention and talking to her about the task she wants you to do, she'll become a member of your party. So after you're all done, she'll take up residence on your ship. You can walk into her room, examine all the cool paintings she has on the wall, and fix yourself a drink at the bar. Like Zaeed, another added character through downloadable content, you can't actually engage in full conversation with her, she just talks at you as you wander around her room.

With a dark hook, black eyes, and a cloaking ability, Kasumi is an intimidating character. In battle, she can also pull off the Mass Effect equivalent of a rogue backstab, as she cloaks, moves behind a target, then reappears and whacks the foe in the back of its head with your omni-tool. She'll also offer the ability to toss out flashbangs as a loyalty bonus, and during the mission you'll get a fancy new gun.

You'll be able to access the content regardless of where you are in the game – whether you're halfway through the story or finished. In all we're told it'll take about one hour and a half to complete, and according to BioWare plays out a little like a James Bond mission. First you infiltrate and mingle with the enemy, then you start shooting. Kasumi will fill you in on the mission details on the Citadel, and then you fly off to the location of the target's mansion, which turns out to be fairly lavish.

I won't spoil any of the specifics, but the plot does at one point involve Michelangelo's David. The setting itself looked impressive, as the interior of the mansion looked out over grassy fields, a large expanse of water, and a city in the distance under a clear, sunny sky. Within the residence were a number of elaborate paintings, bookshelves, and other fancy features as guests of the target's party wandered around in formal wear, clinking glasses as piano music played in the background.

Once the fighting breaks out, expect things to get quite hectic as Shepard and Kasumi battle against a number of formidable foes, some of which will lob flashbangs your way. Assuming the price is right, this could be a nice addition for fans of BioWare's sci-fi RPG.

BioWare explains just how much your actions matter in the RPG series.

March 13, 2010 - Warning: This article contains specific plot information about the first Mass Effect game. If you have not played Mass Effect, you might want to bookmark this article and read it later.

The Game Developers Conference is full of interesting little bits of information, scattered throughout the lectures, discussion panels and meetings scheduled throughout the week. Some are boring, some are explosive, and some are just plain interesting.

During a talk titled "Get Your Game Out of My Movie! Interactive Storytelling in Mass Effect 2," Armando Troisi, BioWare's Lead Cinematic Director for the Mass Effect franchise dropped a data bomb that falls into the latter category.

BioWare has repeatedly said that Mass Effect is the player's story, and that the series is a different kind of role-playing experience than some of its previous RPGs. That's partly because the games track your actions and assign varying levels of importance to the decisions you make on behalf of your Commander Shepard.

Troisi described Mass Effect's built-in ability to read your game save files as the series' "uber-feature," and said there are roughly 700 "plot hooks" in Mass Effect 1 that carry over one way or another into Mass Effect 2. To illustrate just how granular BioWare gets with these player choices, he showed a brief segment of Mass Effect 2.

Hown many plot hooks will Kasumi have?

In the scene, a male Commander Shepard walks up to one of the advertising pillars on the Citadel, and a trailer for a fictional film begins to play. Because this particular Shepard had chosen to let the Citadel Council die in the final moments of the game's ending, the trailer reflected that and announced that the film would have a fall release date. Then Troisi showed the same interaction with a female Shepard who had chosen to spare the Council. The trailer played out differently, and a summer release date was given.

It's a small detail, and one that most players would likely never notice. But it's illustrative of just how much decision detail BioWare has woven into Mass Effect 1 and 2. Troisi specifically mentioned that Mass Effect 3 will place the same importance on save files and player actions.

We've still got a long, painful wait before the next full installment hits. But that doesn't mean there won't be more Mass Effect in the meantime. Check out our impressions of the upcoming Mass Effect 2 add-on pack, Kasumi's Stolen Memory. The download hits Xbox Live on April 6.

Can i just say that stuff about 700 plot hooks is a crock!
There was so little crossover from what I saw it was pretty dissapointing and the Role play wasnt anywhere near the first games standards.

First revealed earlier this month during the Game Developers Conference, the Stolen Memory pack contains an all-new playable character, Kasumi Goto, a master thief. New missions will also be available. BioWare says you'll be able to access the content at any point in the game and will take about an hour and a half to complete.

What is Mass Effect 3's 'Project Wombat'?
BioWare is such a tease.
by Jim Reilly
March 25, 2010 - While it's not shocking development for Mass Effect 3 has already begun, it seems the folks at BioWare just couldn't help but tease its fanbase with new droplets of information.

Lead gameplay designer Christina Norman recently teased on her personal Twitter account she's starting working on something new for the third game. "Today I started work on 'Project Wombat' for Mass Effect 3," she wrote. By comparison "The ammo system in Mass Effect 2 was originally called 'Project Sasquatch,'" she added.

But fans shouldn't expect to be zipping through the galaxy on an Australian marsupial. Norman said the name implies nothing about what to expect in Mass Effect 3. "Wow a lot of speculation on what Project Wombat is," she said. "Sorry I can't say! I can say the name has nothing to do with the project."

A new countdown clock on the web pages for Mass Effect and Dragon Age is set to end on Monday morning. So expect even more surprises then.

The Moderators it maybe time to change this name on this thread to Mass Effect Series

Hmmm not sure tbh, Nord.

One one hand this thread is about Mass Effect 2, so we could have a seperate Thread about Mass Effect 3 and beyond.
But on the other hand we could have one large thread about the entire saga now that the speculation hotbed has cooled down.
