What are you reading? I thought I'd post this as I couldn't find a what are you reading thread. (unless I've missed it somewhere) I have three books on the go at the moment, and they are: Chris Kuzneski- The Lost Throne (I love his books and his Payne and Jones characters are fun to read. They apear in all his books so far) Drew Karpyshyn- Mass Effect: Ascension (the auther was the lead writter on the Mass Effect game for Bioware. This is the second book and gets you ready for Mass Effect II) Michael Reaves- Star Wars- Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter (I haven't read many Star Wars books to be honest, but this one seems to be a fun read)

Well I've just finished reading The Soldier Son Trilogy by Robin Hobb, one of my favorite authors. And this latest effort didn't dissapoint! To quote Wikipedia: "The greater themes of the series so far are: post-colonial backlash, loss of cultural identity, and 'Going Native'" Top read. I've just started on book one of The Grail Quest by Bernard Cornwell of "Sharpe" fame. I absolutely loved The Warlord Chronicles trliogy he did (a gritty account of the Arthurian legend from the point of view of a soldier) so this one I have high hopes for.

I doubt I'd ever touch the Silmarillion with a barge poll. I had enough trouble slogging through LOTR – and I love my fantasy books! Tolkein may have been an amazing ideas man, a linguistic genius and whatever else, but if I'm honest his writing has none of the flair or poetry that makes a read enjoyable for me. |

DEFINATELY avoid The Silmarillion then mate! That's like a text-book encyclopedia of fantasy works.... mind you, saying that Chris Tolkien only had his old man's 'notes' to go through, they weren't even in any chronological order! Not a task I'd want to undertake!

I've just started to read: Guillermo Del Toro/Chuck Hogan- The Strainhttp://www.thestraintrilogy.com/Co-written by the creator of Pan's Labyrinth and the director of Hell Boy and The Hobbit. It's the first part of a new trilogy and so far it's been a good read.
